Thankful Kids Change the World

What are you thankful for during this Thanksgiving season?

Who are you thankful is in your life?
Think of 4 reasons you are thankful for them.
If you are having a hard time thinking of ideas, try grabbing a piece of paper and creating a web.
Sample web.

Now the fun part:
How we can change the world is by loving and appreciating those around us each day.
Supplies needed:
Paper, scissors, pens/crayons/markers/glitter/whatever your creative heart desires to decorate.
 Step 1: Trace your handprint.
Step 2: On each finger(don’t write on the thumb) write the why you are thankful from above.
Step 3: On the palm write a message to whom you are thankful.
Step 4: Decorate your thankful turkey.
The thumb is the head, the fingers are the feathers.
You can either cut out the turkey or decorate the paper around the turkey.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving

Protein Protein Protein

So cow meat is protein.

What else can fill the protein section of your plate?

Chicken. Drumsticks and nuggets are my favorite.

Eggs...how do you like your eggs?

Hard-boiled eggs are my favorite.

Fish is another yummy protein. What is your favorite type of fish. I love salmon.

Peanut Butter is another way to consume protein. How about a peanut butter sandwich?
Whole wheat bread and what is your favorite flavor of jam.
My grandma's blackberry jam is so delicious.

Beans are great source of protein. I like beans in a tortilla with melted cheese and salsa.

Beef from hamburger to steak

Here are the answers to the challenge posted in the last post.

How many different types of protein, made from cows,
can you name that can fill your protein section of your plate?

So after posing the challenge to you. I was hunting for the answers.
While attending the local county fair, last week, we were meandering through the cow barn and I saw this flyer and was so excited to share it with you.

It has the answers and more.

So enjoy filling your the protein section of your plate with beef tonight.

How many cuts had you heard of before?
How many were new?

I was interested to learn where the different cuts of meat are located on the cow.

What's on your Plate?

This is the icon for MyPlate which replaced MyPyramid in June 2011. The new MyPlate icon is composed of a plate divided into 4 sections: fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein. A dairy section is off the plate to the side. The MyPlate graphic is positioned on a placemat with the website ChooseMyPlate.gov written underneath. The 5 sections of MyPlate are clickable and go to food group subpages.
We have explored where our food is grown.
We have bought directly from the farmers at the Farmer's Market.

The next question?
What does your plate look like when you sit and eat it?

1. Memorize the plate picture.
2. Half vegetables and fruit.

What is protein?

What are grains?

Ask your parents, teachers, google it...
Play food detective...

or stay tuned for the answer.

Yippee Vegetables!!!!

Knowing where your food comes from is easier in the summer.
Farmer's Markets are everywhere.
I love Farmer's Markets.

As a little girl, my favorite activity on Saturday morning was to go with my mom to the Farmer's Market.  Veggies, flowers, fresh made bread, and hand-made crafts were everywhere.

As an adult, May-October the Farmers Market is part of my weekly routine.

Do you know of a Farmer's Market by your house?
How many vegetables can you name?

Check out April Pulley Sayre's new book.
