Beef from hamburger to steak

Here are the answers to the challenge posted in the last post.

How many different types of protein, made from cows,
can you name that can fill your protein section of your plate?

So after posing the challenge to you. I was hunting for the answers.
While attending the local county fair, last week, we were meandering through the cow barn and I saw this flyer and was so excited to share it with you.

It has the answers and more.

So enjoy filling your the protein section of your plate with beef tonight.

Beef Cuts from the Cattlemen's Beef Board and National Cattlemen's Beef Association

How many cuts had you heard of before?
How many were new?

I was interested to learn where the different cuts of meat are located on the cow.

What's on your Plate?

This is the icon for MyPlate which replaced MyPyramid in June 2011. The new MyPlate icon is composed of a plate divided into 4 sections: fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein. A dairy section is off the plate to the side. The MyPlate graphic is positioned on a placemat with the website ChooseMyPlate.gov written underneath. The 5 sections of MyPlate are clickable and go to food group subpages.
We have explored where our food is grown.
We have bought directly from the farmers at the Farmer's Market.

The next question?
What does your plate look like when you sit and eat it?

1. Memorize the plate picture.
2. Half vegetables and fruit.

What is protein?

What are grains?

Ask your parents, teachers, google it...
Play food detective...

or stay tuned for the answer.

Yippee Vegetables!!!!

Knowing where your food comes from is easier in the summer.
Farmer's Markets are everywhere.
I love Farmer's Markets.

As a little girl, my favorite activity on Saturday morning was to go with my mom to the Farmer's Market.  Veggies, flowers, fresh made bread, and hand-made crafts were everywhere.

As an adult, May-October the Farmers Market is part of my weekly routine.

Do you know of a Farmer's Market by your house?
How many vegetables can you name?

Birthday Ideas

Today is my daughter's 1st Birthday.
She got lots of toys and clothes but I
wanted to think about how I can help
her change the world.

I looked on World Vision's site for
some ideas and thought sponsoring
a child with her birthday could help
change the world little by little.

Another tradition is to give a gift to another child.

Soccer ball, baby chicks, blankets, and so many other ideas click here

Please ask your parents first.

Where Does My Food Come From?

When I go to the Grocery Store...there are so many choices.

Where did that food come from?
Be a food detective...
What questions can we ask?

Does the food magically appear in the store?
Do the apples grow in the produce bins?
Does the cereal box get packaged on the shelf?
Does the meat naturally come in plastic packages?

Write your answers in the comments and write more food detective questions.
